Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-05-25

Simple IP Tools is designed with privacy as a core principle. This policy explains what data is — and isn't — handled by the app.

Summary

Simple IP Tools does not collect, store, transmit, or share any personally identifiable information. We do not use analytics, advertising SDKs, crash reporters, or any third-party tracking.

What the app does

The app performs standard network diagnostic operations against hosts that you explicitly specify, including:

  • DNS lookups (via the system resolver and Apple's dnssd framework)
  • ICMP echo (ping) and TCP/UDP connection probes
  • HTTPS requests to public IP-echo services (used only by the "My IP" feature to detect your public address)
  • WHOIS queries to public registry servers (ARIN, RIPE, APNIC, LACNIC, AFRINIC, IANA, and any custom server you specify)
  • Traceroute via ICMP/ICMPv6

All of these are direct network connections from your device to the targets you choose. None of them go through any server operated by the app's developer.

Local data storage

The app stores a small amount of data locally on your device using iOS UserDefaults:

  • Query history — the last 20 entries per tool (the hostnames or IPs you typed). This never leaves your device.
  • UI preferences — such as the last-used tab.

All of this data can be cleared at any time by using the "Clear All" button in each tool's history sheet, or by uninstalling the app.

Network permission

On first use of certain features (Ping, Port Scanner), iOS may show a "Local Network" permission prompt. This is a system-level permission required by Apple for any app that interacts with devices on your local network. The app does not perform any background scanning or discovery — it acts only when you press a button.

No third-party services

The app has zero third-party SDKs, libraries, or dependencies. Public infrastructure services it may reach include:

  • ipify.org — public IP detection (My IP tab)
  • Standard public WHOIS servers (when you perform a WHOIS or IP Owner lookup)
  • Whatever hosts and ports you explicitly enter into the app

Children's privacy

The app does not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children. It does not require an account, email address, or any personal information to function.

If this policy changes in a meaningful way, an updated version will be published at this URL.
